This morning there was a great article in the Chronicle of Higher Education about “How Behavioral Science Could Improve College Access“. The article was a brief interview with Ben Castleman, within which he discusses how we might improve how we help students make decisions…something that would be very helpful in our student recruitment efforts and in marketing extension programs to new audiences. The full research article, “Prompts, Personalization, And Pay-Offs: Strategies To Improve The Design And Delivery Of College And Financial Aid Information” goes into a lot more detail. ..My personal favorite is where Ben discusses how text messaging (simple, one task at a time) might be a great strategy for youth audiences in our current information overload society.
BTW…come see my poster at Galaxy (Thursday morning) to learn how we implemented the text messaging strategy in the county to do just what Ben found out in his research.
