Why a picture of Nebraska trails on a post about listservs? Our Food, Nutrition, and Health Spire produced a Walk Nebraska monthly article we wanted to let people know about through offering the opportunity to sign up for email notification when the next article was posted.
Once people found the articles, we wanted them to keep reading future articles. So … we set up an Announcement Only Listserv through the UNL listserv system. The function of this type of listserv is to distribute information only. Participants can’t “reply” to the whole group.
After testing and getting some coding assistance from Dave Wiens, EdMedia, we set up the following two announcement listservs:
- Walk Nebraska: http://food.unl.edu/web/fnh/subscribe-walknebraska
- Food Fun (for younger children): http://food.unl.edu/web/fnh/subscribe-foodfun
Intrigued? Subscribe to the listservs and learn how they work. You can always unsubscribe. Cami Wells is currently planning to set out “announcements” this Friday (June 7), so you can see how that works, also.
For anyone that is interested, I would be happy to walk you through the process via Adobe Connect or in person. At the end of about an hour, we could have an announcement only listserv set up for you on a webpage.
(FYI … wonder how I got the beautiful pictures of Nebraska trails without leaving my computer? They are from Creative Commons photos … but that’s another post.)
