Camera at the Ready!

Morel Mushroom

Morel Mushroom by Jan Hygnstrom, UNL. Have a camera ready to capture photos to help you tell a story.

Today I received one of those emails that just make you smile. It was from our colleague, Jan Hygnstrom. Jan is a regular contributor to the Acreage Insights newsletter and on Facebook. She is always looking for great photos to add to her content and help tell a story.

With Jan’s permission, here is her quick email:

“I was taking my morning walk and found this on our land, the first ever in our woods (I found one about 7 years ago under our deck). Fortunately, I had my camera (following Soni’s sage advice!)”.

She also stated later “…I have been better at carrying my camera – photos of turkeys walking down the lane, a skull in the prairie after the prescribed burn, a black fox squirrel on campus. These are treasures!”

Jan was fortunate to remember to take her camera, so she had the opportunity to take this amazing photo. No camera = no photo. Jan took her photo and posted it on the Acreage Insights Facebook Page I’m sure she has started a great collection of photos for future use! Great job, Jan!

Lesson: No matter where you roam, make sure you have a camera with you! You never know what treasures and photo moments you can capture for later use with extension resources. And if you don’t want to carry a traditional camera, make sure you look at photo-taking capabilities of your next smartphone! Start your own photo library and you’ll be amazed how often you use it.
